Genesis Birth Services Founder
Full Spectrum Doula, and Midwife Apprentice, Gerria (Mz Coffee) Coffee, is the founder of Genesis Birth Services providing Doula Support, Childbirth Education, Lactation Support and Medicinal Herbs. Upon giving birth to a set a twins in 2013 and overcoming her own breastfeeding challenges with little support, Mz Coffee recognized there was serious lack of representation in the Birth Service profession, and decided to embark on a career in supporting families in breastfeeding and giving birth, in 2014 She created the website SpiltMilk.mom to educate and share helpful information with families and parents of young children but wanting to have a larger impact on the birth and breastfeeding rates of Black families, she began attending births as a Doula or Birth Coach, while still balancing a family and full time career. , After having her 4th child and experiencing racism in a hospital first hand Coffee would walk away from her career in the Design and Engineering field to focus on Birth and Lactation support Full-time both in person and virtually. Mz Coffee is positioned as an influencer and thought leader, focusing on marginalized communities. Black women are 243% more likely to die in childbirth or pregnancy related complications, the Covid-19 Pandemic left many families afraid and unsupported due to fast changing hospital policies and the spread of misinformation. As Doulas began to fight for the need to be present for families during the Covid-19 Pandemic, Coffee identified a need for birth workers and community health workers to be trained in Pandemic Preparedness to enable them to effectively and safely continue serving the birthing community, Since developing this training Coffee has trained and certified 2 corporations and over 100 would be birth-workers, Doulas and Community Health Workers across the country on best practices to prevent being infected with, and from spreading the coronavirus while continuing to support families. In the same time period, time Gerria also launched SpiltMilk Radio on WXPI-FM where she works as an On Air personality and Program Director for her segment and launched a full Digital Broadcast on WSPM-DB an Urban AC formatted station, where she holds the position of Operations Manager, Program Director and On Air Personality. Both the radio show and Digital Broadcast station are designed to shift and uplift culture through education, highlighting topics such as health wellness for all, birth, and breastfeeding similar to the website she launched in 2014 SpiltMilk.mom. She holds the believe that knowledge is a protection and plans to continue to shift and uplift culture through education through her radio broadcast, trainings and speaking engagements across the country as she continues working to provide access to equitable care as she is on the path to becoming a midwife.
